St. Bonaventure University’s merit-based awards are awarded on the basis of your three year cumulative high school average (freshman through junior year), rigor of courses and SAT or ACT scores*. The best combined effort of the Critical Reading and Math portions of the SAT, or the ACT score, whichever is higher, will be used for award consideration for freshmen.

Presidential Scholarships
Students with exceptional academic credentials will receive our most prestigious academic award: the St. Bonaventure Presidential Scholarship. The yearly award amount is $26,000*. This scholarship is renewable annually for a total four-year value of $104,000, provided that a 3.25 or better cumulative grade point average is maintained.
Friars Scholarship
In keeping with the goals of Franciscan education, the friars of St Bonaventure University offer scholarships through the contributed services of the friars. This scholarship fund recognizes academically gifted freshmen. The award amount is $25,000*. This scholarship is renewable annually for a total four-year value of $100,000, provided that a 3.0 or better cumulative grade point average is maintained.
Provost Scholarship
These awards are available to entering freshmen with high academic achievement. The award amount is $24,000*. This scholarship is renewable annually for a total four-year value of $96,000, provided that a 2.75 or better cumulative grade point average is maintained.
Achievement Grant
Available to entering freshmen with commendable academic achievement, this award amount is $19,000*. This scholarship is renewable annually for a total four-year value of $76,000, provided that a 2.5 or better cumulative grade point average is maintained.
Incentive Grant
The St. Bonaventure University Incentive Grant is available to students who have not qualified for any other merit award. The grant is for $12,000* and is renewable annually for a four-year total of $48,000, provided that a 2.0 or better cumulative grade point average is maintained.
Sibling Grant
The St. Bonaventure University Sibling Grant is available to students if two or more siblings from the same immediate family are concurrently registered as full-time undergraduate students in the same semester. The grant is for $250 per semester of concurrent enrollment (or $500 max per student per year). This grant does not apply to graduate students. This grant is not applicable if a student is receiving a grant, scholarship or award that covers full tuition.
Junior Scholarship - Bonnie Scholarship
The Bonnie Scholarship is awarded to students their junior year of high school. At St. Bonaventure, our Franciscan values of community and service are cornerstones of our identity, mission, and culture. This scholarship rewards students based on qualities that reflect the core values of our university, including academic excellence, community, integrity, wisdom, leadership, social responsibility, compassion, and an appreciation for diversity. The yearly award amount is $20,000*. This scholarship is renewable annually for a total four-year value of $80,000.
*Note: Junior Scholar Award recipients will receive the Junior Scholar award won or, if they qualify, a larger merit-based scholarship at the time of application. Jandoli Scholarship
This School of Communication award recognizes incoming freshmen who have a record of academic achievement, and are pursuing a degree in either Journalism and Mass Communication or Strategic Communication and Digital Media. The award is at least $1,000 and renewable based on satisfactory academic performance. Awardees must have a high school GPA of 88 or higher and a SAT Reading Score of 26.5 or higher or ACT English or Reading score of 21.5 or higher.
There is no application for this scholarship. The criteria stated above will be used from the student's application for admission for award consideration, as well as financial need (freshmen).
St. Marianne Cope Scholarship
This School of Education award recognizes incoming freshmen who have a record of academic achievement, and are pursuing a degree in elementary education, physical education, childhood studies and sport studies. The award is at least $1,000 and renewable based on satisfactory academic performance, participation in service activities designed for this scholarship and continued enrollment in the School of Education. Applicants must have a high school GPA of 90 or higher and at least a 1080 (Math & Evidence Based Reading & Writing) on the SAT OR 20.5 or higher on the ACT, as well as a completed FAFSA displaying financial need.
There is no application for this scholarship. The criteria stated above will be used from the student's application for admission for award consideration, as well as financial need (freshmen).
*Students choosing to live off campus will have their merit scholarship reduced by 25%.
Freshman scholarships are applied toward tuition and fees.
Freshman scholarships require full-time attendance.
Generally, a student cannot receive a freshman scholarship from more than one of the categories listed above. Students who receive ROTC, Tuition Exchange, and Tuition Remission do not qualify for these awards.
